July 2010 -- Registration is open for Veneshe's fall Italian plaster training class, October 2-9, 2010 in Mondaino, a small mountain town not far from the seaside resort of Rimini. Participants stay in a rustic farmhouse located outside of town, and travel to the nearby village of Saludecio to work on an Italian plaster restoration project. The daily morning training/working session is capped off with a multi-course, freshly prepared lunch at the farmhouse, complete with locally produced wine, and afternoons are free for enjoying the countryside.
Take a quintessentially Italian decorative art form - Venetian Plastering, a group of international students and professionals eager to master its techniques on a restoration project in Italy, and ample opportunities for sight-seeing, wine-tasting, and experiencing life in the Italian countryside, and you have one of the most unique, travel and learning vacations available today. Decorative painters, Italian plaster artisans, architects and builders, interior designers and creative-minded homeowners can experience the camaraderie and satisfaction of working together to transform a simple room into a stunning example of Venetian plaster artistry, building friendships, skills and portfolio-building credentials that will last a lifetime.Veneshe's Venetian plaster training-vacation-experiences cater to curious, adventurous, lifelong learners. The learning is real world and practical. The training venues are homes and small businesses with appreciative owners. The decorative plaster work being done becomes the talk of the town. The camaraderie and teamwork that unites the class becomes an integral part of the experience. Class size is intimate; the Italian plastering techniques taught become natural and ingrained. Students learn to trowel plaster with the special fluidity and timing of the accomplished artisan, appreciating the natural rhythm of application as creamy, natural Italian plaster flows from trowel to surface, creating micro-thin layers of movement and color that magically emerge in a final burnishing. The products used-- all natural FirmoluxTM Italian plasters produced by one of the oldest and most well respected manufacturing facilities in Italy, are available to applicators in the United States, so Venetian plaster wall finishes mastered in Italy can be re-created upon return.
Veneshe provides all the essentials: multiple demonstrations and one-on-one oversight, the ability to practice on a sample board prior to going "on the wall," all necessary materials, tools, and the essentials - cappuccino, brioche, home cooked lunches and locally produced red wine. As a student in the March 2010 Venetian plaster class in Tuscany writes: "Our class provided a unique and exciting way to both build my confidence in learning Venetian plastering techniques, and to be introduced to the storybook area of Tuscany. The countryside itself is inspiring, and the opportunity to be further immersed in the culture by completing a project while staying at Fagiolari was delight. It was rewarding to add to the beauty of this area via our finished room, and enjoying the wealth of historical/artistic/cultural treasures of Italy in our free time made for lasting memories and great pictures alike!"
The training class can accommodate up to 6 students. The $2400 student fee includes 6 days instruction, materials, 7 nights lodging, and daily breakfast and lunch. Air/ground transportation and dinners are not included. Reduced rates are available for traveling companions. Student couples discounts are offered as well.
