Venetian Plaster Training and Restoration Project in Tuscany
Panzano in Chianti
"An unforgetable learning experience in Tuscany!"
Students in Veneshe Venetian Plastering's March 2010 class left the East Coast blanketed in snow and ice, arriving to the first signs of Spring in Tuscany. Through plastering demonstrations, sample building and actual hands-on experience, the class learned to expertly apply Piatto Italian Plaster while working on a plaster restoration project in Panzano in Chianti.
We worked and stayed at Fagiolari, described by Karen Brown as a bed and breakfast that "radiates a natural charm...Cordial hostess Giulietta has seemingly unintentionally created a haven for travelers just by letting her home be a home. The unique stone farmhouse on three levels is brimming with character and has been restored with total respect for its innate simplicity using stone, terracotta brick, and chestnut-wood beams." This description only hints at the amazing hospitality, culinary delights, and comforts of home we received as we set about our venetian plastering project: restoring the owner's personal living space using all natural Italian lime plasters.
Price included instruction, materials, lodging (9 nights) and half board (breakfast and lunch). Plastering classes took place in the morning and following a gourmet lunch, the afternoons were free for exploring nearby Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and the quaint and romantic towns of the Chianti region. You can see finished photos of our restoration project in the Old World Plaster Gallery.
