In April 2014 Veneshe returned to Tuscany and B&B Fagiolari for a 10 day total immersive Italy experience. Our Venetian plaster training project consisted of applying buttery Marmorino Sahara plaster to the walls of the sitting area just off the main entry. We taught a skip troweled technique to give the 800 year old walls a fresh look while recreating an aged patina, as if they were polished with golden olive oil. In fact, it's the natural beauty of the Marmorino which provides the subtle sheen, and a natural protective wax sealant which punches up the dimensionality of the layering.
In between our plastering lessons, we worked in a full itinerary of touring Tuscany, including two full days in Florence, visits to local Chianti villages, as well as visits to the larger, medieval cities of Volterra and San Gimignano. Our travels took us to major art galleries and tiny artisan shops to watch craftspeople demonstrate their arts. Many of our meals were taken at our cozy home base at Fagiolari, but others included quaint little restaurants well known for their culinary excellence, dinner in a restored chapel turned country inn, new spots we discovered in our travels, and meals which we prepared as a group from groceries we picked up in our travels.
Some of our favorite experiences occured serendipitously - a Friday night party at the local butcher shop, the unexpected arrival of a horse and carriage with costumed footmen in Greve, and mements spent in quiet reflection stretched out on the lawn listening to the sound of bees humming over by the wisteria in full bloom, or wandering the gorgeious property. A cooking class with Giulietta, followed by a multi-course, shared meal with the full group, culminated the week's activities.
